This pretty Greek island has plenty to offer its visitors, most of which are couples looking for stunning scenary, a clean uncommercialised resort, and for the beach lover you could dip your toes in the stunning blue seas of over two beaches each day and still not see them all. Samos is green fertile and mountainous, home of the famous Samiotiko wine its vineyards stretch for miles. Tourist spots such as Kokkari, Vathi and Pythagoira offer modern hotels and self catering units making it a popular area to visit for holiday makers who prefer a good standard of accomodation. The livliest spot on the island, especially in peak season has to be Vathi or Samos Town as the locals have named it, if the a vist to one of the many local historical sites is not your cup of tea then laze your day away on one of the surrounding stunning sandy beaches. Pythagorian is the main tourist resort on Samos, many yatchs moore in its picturesque harbour and it is possible to visit many of the other Aegean islands from here. Named after the famous mathematicain Pythagoras, this area has many tavernas and souvineer shops even pretty outdoor coffee shops where you can sit on the pavement sipping hot frothy coffees while people go about their business. For water sports head for Kokkari where the wind is especially good for windsurfing and surfing, if you are a novice there is a windsurfing school here, or maybe just top up your suntan while sipping on a long cool drink from one of the beachside tavernas. A boat trip to Samiopoula is definatly worth taking time out from the beach for, sail across to this pretty island where the beach is definatly worth a visit. Order your food on the voyage across, a choice of Barbequed meats such as pork or lamb served with the usual greek accompaniments, on landing make your way to a ridge above the bay where you can take in amazing views while enjoying good food, the fish especially is something that you should go out of your way to try. Most restaurants give you the option to choose your fresh fish or lobster prior to cooking, you are then charged by weight rather than a set price. For desert opt for sweet tasty baklavas, pastry layered with nuts and honey topped with sweet local fruit, accompanied by one of the excellent locally produced wines, these go well with everything especially the local seafood.
