Think of Costa Brava and immediatley a vision of fish and chips, sangria and low budget accomodation springs to mind, which is a real shame as this diverse area of Spain has alot more to offer, been a year round resort once the winter months approach the sun loungers make way for the skiiers who head here for the excellent ski facilities and more so the apre ski. Beautiful beaches, stunning undiscovered coves and scenic countryside attract the summer visitor, a far cry from the package holiday image that some of the resorts unfortunatley have become tarnished with. Modern marinas crammed with luxury yatchs lie side by side with pretty fishing villages surrounded by lush citrus trees and sweet smelling herbs, long stretches of sand and shingle beach offer a variety of water sports meaning that there is something here to please almost every taste. Off the beaten track and away from the main tourist resorts lies the area of Catalonia which is a complete contrast again, surrounded by lush green countryside and mountainous rolling hills this traditionally quaint area even has its own language. The main tourist area of the Costa Brava lies right in its heart, Lloret De Mar also the livliest resort attracting couples, families and the 18 to 30 crowd drawn here by the huge choice of British bars, nightclubs and foam parties. For the family there is a huge waterpark, aquatic zoo and even a theme park, all in all you will be kept well entertained if this is your choice for a holiday. Quieter resorts such as L'Estartit and Blanes are more laid back while still offering the tourist everything they require from a modern holiday resort. If you are looking for something more cosmopolitan look no further than gay friendly Sitges, the nightlife here is pretty up tempo but is reflected in the prices. If you prefer eating out at one of the local restaurants to be the way to spend your evenings then there are choices and prices to suite all pockets, choose from traditional Catalonian cuisines and tapas to mouthwatering fresh fish dishes and tasty paella served with saffron rice. For those of us who are not adventuras the British style bars of course offer English dishes for those who would rather not try something different.
