Visit lively Playa Del Carmen and drink cocktails by the yard in Senior Frogs nightclub, or sample some traditional mouthwatering Mexican food at one of the many outdoor cafe bars. There are many jewellry and diamond shops in Playa Del Carmen most of them having armed guards on the door so don't be alarmed it is perfectly normal. Xcaret, Playacar and Puerto Aventuras are other tourist areas which are increasing in popularity. All inclusive hotels make up the majority of accomodation but there are some self catering and bed and breakfast establishments available if you would rather eat out and sample good local cuisine. The history and culture of Mexico is quite fascinating and there are many archeological ruins well worth a visit, take a full day trip to Chichen Itza is the remains of an ancient Mayan city located in the middle of the Yucatan jungle, or Tulum another spectacular ruin right on the edge of the Mayan Riviera offering stunning views. If you prefer to get close to nature, one for the whole family has to be Xpu Ha Eco park where once you have paid your entry fee everything is then included, snorkel with fish of every size and colour you could imagine in a natural lagoon, wander nature trials, watch crocodiles, sea turtles, deer, snakes and parrots all in their natural habitat. You can even drift down a natural lazy river while tropical fish swim below you and monkeys play in the trees around you a once in a life time experience.
