Cheap holidays to Corfu

Also known as Kerkyra, the island of Corfu is very diverse in what it has to offer its visitors, most people immediatley think of Kavos, partying until dawn and drunken larger louts but this beautiful part of Greece offers much much more. It was the first area of Greece to experience mass tourism and still remains a firm favourite with British holiday makers looking for cheap fun in the sun and with its huge choice of sandy beaches, many of which are blue flag, is it any wonder that families are now returning here year after year.

Depending on just what you are looking for in your holiday may depend on which of the many resorts you choose to spend your time in, if it's a lively spot with plenty of nightlife then try Ipsos or Kavos. Kavos is the livlier of the two, the clubbing capital of Corfu and generally frequented by the 18 to 30 age group looking for cheap beer, clubs which are open all night and fast food joints. Ipsos is still pretty lively and would be your second choice if you want wall to wall music bars, burger and chips, and all day Englsih breakfasts ideal for soaking up your hang over.

Away from all this there are many stunning areas that will accommodate couples or families such as scenic Paleokastritsa, try saying that after a few ouzo, although hilly so not so suitable for anyone with walking difficulties it offers lush green countryside set around a horseshoe shaped bay from which regular boat trips leave to take you scuba diving or to marvel at what the sea has to offer in a glass bottom boat. Aghios Giordios is a small resort ideal for anyone with small children, the waters here are relativley shallow, edged by a long uncrowded sandy beach. The resort itself still holds much of its Greek character, for eating out it is mainly a choice of Greek tavernas with only a handful of English bars and for provisions there are a few supermarkets or you can jump on the local bus to Corfu town.

The usual idea is to come on holiday and lay on the beach and with so many to choose from no one could blame you but if you have taken a little too much sun then why not cool down at Aqualand situated conveniently in the middle of the island, one of Europes largest water parks there is fun to be had by everyone, if you prefer something a little more sedate why not Tee off on the championship golf course or visit Achillion Palace, a beautiful building set in stunning gardens over looking the sea, don't forget your camera though as there are plenty of photo opportunities.

As the day draws in then where and what to eat usually comes to mind and is part of many peoples holiday experience, food and drink is generally inexpensive but that would obviously depend on where you choose. Corfu town offers an abundance of tavernas and wine bars serving everything from subtle Italian pasta dishes to Small Greek tavernas which are usually filled with locals, always a good indication of good food at excellent prices.
