Served by two airports, to the West is Chania the quieter unspoilt side of Crete and to the East Heraklion, depending on where you are staying will determine which of these airports you will fly into. The scenary here is a mixture of stunning mountains, beautiful beaches, charming traditional villages and some pretty amazing nightlife as it is home to the top party spot of Malia where thousands of young 18 to 30's head to let it all hang out. If you're past all that staying out until early morning then there are plenty of other resorts in Crete to suite every taste such as the rapidly expanding resort of Stalis, ideal for the family looking for a great beach with plenty of watersports to keep the older children happy, it has easy access to neighbouring resorts with plenty of lively bars and traditional tavernas. If you prefer a base from which to explore the island then Gouves is the ideal choice, only 30 mins from the airport this small resort offers a relaxation and beauty with a few bars and restaurants to visit on your evening stroll. Picturesque Chania lies to the west and is the more fertile side of the island, boasting a venetian style harbour which is lined with cosmopolitan style bars and restaurants which come alive when the sun sets. Most of the accommodation on offer are small family style self catering properties making it ideal for families and couples.

The sunshine record here is fantastic with hot summers where the thermometer can reach the top of the scale especially in July and August, although the mountainous conditions mean that the weather can change very quickly, but generally anytime between May to October is a good time to holiday.

When you have tired of the beach take in some of the sites,the untouched island of spinalonga is reached by boat, take in the sun while your guide tells you its sad story then once you hit land relax on the beach while filling up from the freshly prepared barbeque before taking a dip in the cool med waters. Keep the whole family happy with a trip to the waterpark the ideal place to keep cool, have fun and maybe try your hand at the paragliding.

When evening comes then it's time to eat, in the more touristy areas there are plenty of cafe bars offering typical English grub, but if you are a little more adventuras there is a huge choice of chinese, Italian, Indian and of course Greek. Tavernas offer either traditional foods such as stuffed vine leaves or even a barbeque where you can choose you own food hot from the grill, wash this down with a cold local beer or a glass of one of the many wines on offer.
