Cheap Holidays to Kefalonia

Made famous by the film Captian Corelli's Mandoline it is no mystery as to why holiday makers return to Kefelonia again and again, this charming Greek paradise with its spectacular scenary and stunning beaches is the perfect place for couples and families to come and explore the natural beauty of this island. Its huge mountain range is a National park which is home to many protected species who live alongside wild ponies, golden eagles and osprey. The sea also offers an abundance of wild life and it is no surprise to spot Dolphins, logger head turtles or even the odd seal playing amongst the waves, a great experience especially if you have your camera to hand.

Nightlife on Kefelonia is very laid back, and generally revolves around a good restaurant or taverna, although Argostoli the islands busy capital offers the a good choice of bars and disco's, and is also the best place to visit when shopping for holiday souvineers.

Beaches in Kefelonia range from long, wide golden sands to pebbly horseshoe shaped bays all of them are equally stunning. The busy resort of Skala probably has the best beach on the island, from here you can also try your hand at a variety of watersports such as wind surfing and scuba diving. The smaller resort of Lourdas has the largest bay, over two miles of sand and pebble, there are also a great choice of tavernas and restaurants, ideal for families. The gentley shelving beach of Lassi is also ideal for the family, with its clean, clear waters and soft golden sands, there are various snack bars and tavernas along the beach offering different foods at reasonable prices. Jet skis, water skis, banana boats and doughnuts can all be hired, or for some fun with the kids hire a pedalo with a waterslide.

When it comes to eating out then look no further than the local taverna where you can sample excellent home cooked local fayre such as fresh octopus, swordfish or tasty moussaka, accompanied by a bottle of the local wine.

A popular trip is jumping aboard one of the many early morning ferries that leave Argostoli to sample what some of the other islands have to offer, Ithaca, Zante and even Italy are some of the choices you have.
