Cheap Holidays to Lefkas

This island is still growing in popularity, helped by the recent opening of Preveza airport to charter flights. The East coast of the island is the one most frequented by the tourist trade, this been mainly due to the fantastic beaches, the West coast is rarely visted by holiday makers and is ideally suited to the more adventuras, with rugged cliffs and rough seas. To the scenic south there are stunning views to be had, although the beaches here are pretty unaccessable.

At the most Norther tip of the island is small village of Lefkas, the Venetian churches and narrow traffic free lanes give it a cosmopolitan air. Take a stroll along the pretty harbour or sit and watch the world go by outside one of the many tavernas where you are supposedly offered the largest portions in Greece. Nidri is the largest tourist resort on Lefkas and was once the playground of Aristotle Onassis, and it really comes to life by night making it the place where young people head for to party the night away. The sea front is lined with busy tavernas, a popular spot for tourists and locals to while away the day. The beaches are a little disappointing, mainly been made up of pebbles and shingle although the settings and views generally make up for it. If you like a spot of surfing then head for Vasiliki where there is a great choice of watersports, the excellent conditions here means that it can get pretty busy in July and August. To the east of this area are a selection of small pretty coves, ideal if you want to escape the busier main tourist beaches.

Away from the main tourist resorts are many small uncommercialised villages just waiting to be discovered, ideal for stopping off for a cool drink and to watch the locals go about their business.
Taking a walk to explore the island is a highly recommended as there is very little else to do other than try your hand at one of the array of watersports on offer or taking a boat trip to one of the near by islands.
