Cheap Holidays to Minorca
search for cheap holidays to MinorcaThe jewel of the Balearics has luckily managed to escape the mass tourism of its sister Island Majorca which means that this unspoilt family friendly island retains much of its origonal Spanish character. The 100 or so beaches here range from long sweeping expanses of golden sands to small uncrowded coves with shallow crystal waters making them the ideal place for families with smaller children and a trip to the well know Cala Galdana is definatley worth a visit.
Most types of watersports are available on Minorcas beaches, windsurfing , waterskiing, parasailing and for the less adventuras there are Gondolas, pedloes and relaxing scuba diving.
Car hire is definatley recommended on Minorca and is the ideal way to get around and explore some of the pretty resorts, the roads are excellent and you can drive across the whole island in a day.
Mahon is the capital, a popular port of call for many visitors to the island who come here to savour the cosmopolitan atmosphere or to head for one of the many excellent fish restaurants and cafes which line the harbour, particularly appealing on an evening if dining al fresco, watching the yatchs bobbing gentley and the lights from the lanters reflecting in the waters. The old capital of Cuidadella is a complete contrast and has no tourist attractions to speak of, but does offer some fanstic restaurants and great shopping.
A huge favourite for anyone with children is the resort of Arenald'en Castell, the soft, golden sandy beach with warm shallow waters makes it a safe haven for children to play in, it is also a great place for watersports such as windsurfing, waterskiing and pedoloes. The evening entertainment is mainly centred round the hotels and is also usually open to non-residents, if you would rather venture out there are a variety of restaurants serving everything from tapas to pizza.
A great resort for families and couples has to be Cala 'n' Forcat, with excellent bathing conditions around the small sandy cove and crystal clear shallow waters ideal for toddlers to spend their days splashing around, if that doesn't keep them amused there are trampolines, bouncy castles and also an aqua park which should be more than enough to keep them entertained.
Children are welcomed with open arms in most eating establishments, many of them offering an excellent childrens menu, in some the kids eat free if two adult meals are purchased. I'm sure you will find your favourite dishes readily available but you should try some of the local fayre, especially the succulent fresh fish, spiny lobster or tumbet which is a dish of layered potatoe and tomatoe baked in an earthenware pot.
