Cheap Holidays to Santorini
search for cheap holidays to SantoriniThere is little wonder that thousands of holiday makers make the trip to the stunning island of Santorini year in year out, the sugar cubes houses topped with pretty blue domes only add to the quaint ambiance this island exudes.
Many of the beaches were infact created by the famous volcanoe which origonally destroyed much of the island leaving tiny villages clinging to cliffe edges, most of the sands are black or red making a striking contrast to the crystal clear blue seas. The two best beaches on Santorini can be found in the tourist resorts of Perissa and Kamari and are the ideal place for cooling off, Kamari is by far the largest and most touristy with a huge range of bars and tavernas in which to quench your thirst, a great family resort, but watch out at the beach as the see shelves steeply and is scattered by undercurrents.
Perissa has 5 kilometres of dark sandy beach so there is no problem finding a quiet spot for a spot of holiday relaxation, most of the larger luxury hotels have made their home here and strangley enough the islands largest campsite is also situated in this resort. with its great choice of bars, restaurants and discos makes it a great choice to visit at sundown, watch the sun slip slowly away while sipping on a local cocktail whilst the soft sounds of jazz drift gently through the air.
Eating our here can last a whole evening and is done at a leasurly pace with many courses to eat your way through, start off with the traditional Mezes which offer such things as vine leafs wrapped around various mouthwatering fillings, fish dishes, rice and obviously refreshing tzatsiki, next comes the choice of barbequed or grilled meats or even freshly prepared fish straight from the sea. If you prefer something a little more spicey try a mouthwatering kebab or layers of aubergine and potatoe covered in a meaty sauce other wise known as moussaka. If you have the space then finish it off with a greek pastry and a cup of strong Greek coffee. If traditional Greek fayre is not for you then there are many international restaurants such as Italian or Mexican where you can while away your evenings.
